Each month, Bay Point Rod and Gun Club holds a club meeting and publishes a newsletter detailing the meeting, the current schedule of events, and information regarding upcoming activities. Below you will find the current newsletter along with links for past issues. Hello Everyone, First off, I want to remind everyone that our next scheduled regular club meeting will be on Sunday, November 16th, which also happens to be our Thanksgiving Dinner. I want to encourage each and every one of you to attend this meeting/dinner, as we will be featuring some of the best food of the year. Please mark your calendars as this meeting is not to be missed. Also, all of those who were lucky enough to be drawn for the 2 bird pheasant card, please be sure to harvest your birds in a timely manner and be sure to follow all of Suisun Marshes rules for being in the field. As you harvest your birds, whether club birds or wild, or any other type of animal or fish, be sure to take a few pictures and the proper measurements so you can be entered for this year’s trophy awards. And send your photos to our Secretary so he can put them in the newsletter. Good luck to all on your hunting/fishing ventures this year. One last item: I am not one to say much as far as politics goes, but this is a very important election year and I want to encourage you all to get out and vote. It is very important not to become complacent and let this right that we all have to be taken for granted. So get out there and do the right thing. Know what the various propositions say and then get out there and vote. Tim Hutchison President Minutes from the Last General Meeting Our October general meeting was held on Tuesday, October 7th, and we had 32 members, 6 associates, and 1 guest in attendance. The meeting was called to order at 7:15pm, and we were led in the Pledge of Allegiance by Vic Parachini. We had 3 new members in attendance at the meeting: Todd Armstrong, Lance Konlon, and Richard Holmes. These new members were warmly welcomed to the club. The minutes from last month’s meeting, as presented in the September newsletter, were accepted by the membership present. The Treasurer’s report for September was not given, as Tammy was attending a hunter safety course. The September and October Treasurer’s reports will be presented at the November meeting. Club President Tim Hutchison announced that Gene Bayer had won High Over-All with a score of 99 at the recent Diablo Rod & Gun Club skeet shoot. Very well done, Gene. Sporting Clays Chairman Kevin Young reiterated that due to an apparent lack of interest in a club-organized sporting clays shoot, we will not be holding any shoots this year. Look for a shoot announcement sometime after New Years. The date for the upcoming club Thanksgiving Dinner has been confirmed for Sunday, November 16th. We will also hold our regular monthly membership meeting after the dinner, so mark your calendar. There will be no club meeting on the 1st Tuesday of November (November 4th). Sunday, December 14th has been set as the date for our Christmas Dinner. We will hold our general membership meeting on that day as well. Next year’s annual Crab Feed dinner will be held on Saturday, February 28th. Look for more details on this in the coming months. This month marked the end of the pre-meeting free trap and skeet shooting for members. We’ll pick this up again next spring. Ed White held the pheasant drawing and the lucky winners this month were Steve McConnell, Ed White, Richard Holmes, Glenn Ashworth and Terry Seymour. The meeting was adjourned at 7:40pm. Trap Doubles Shoot on September 27th We had 12 shooters attend our Trap Doubles Shoot. It was a nice day and everyone had a fun shoot. Here’s how it turned out: High Over-All
Gene Bayer held a raffle after the shoot and nearly everyone walked away with something. Prizes included hats, Buck brand fillet knives, bore snakes, and a Beretta pocket knife. Thanks, Gene. New Mailing Address Make a note: the club has a new mailing address, effective immediately. All correspondence to the club should go to this address: P.O. Box 535, Concord, CA 94522. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but unfortunately the change was unavoidable: the Post Office was leasing the building where the former box was located and the lease will terminate at the end of the year. Our Membership Chairman quickly located and acquired a new box to avoid any interruption in member communication lines to the club.
Multi-Purpose Range Fun Shoot on October 12th John Labash oversaw the safe shooting at the multi-purpose range during the fun shoot for Bay Point members. There were 17 people who came out and shot.
Vote to Safeguard Your Rights By the time you receive this newsletter you will have only a short time before Election Day. If possibly you were considering not voting this year, by all means CHANGE YOUR MIND. We are facing some serious anti-gun politicians this time around, and your vote can make the difference between us continuing to enjoy our guns and shooting sports or losing it all. Here’s what the NRA has to say, as published in their November 2008 issue of American Hunter: In no other nation does the average citizen enjoy as much political power as we do in America. If not for a handful of Florida voters in 2000, the last eight years would have been dark times for those of us who cherish our Right to Keep and Bear Arms and our hunting heritage. In 2000 and 2004, American gun owners rose to the occasion and defeated tough, seasoned opponents of the second Amendment – Al Gore and John Kerry. And those opponents got craftier each election cycle in camouflaging their true beliefs about gun ownership. Today, we face a different challenge. Barack Obama has such a long, openly anti-gun record that he cannot hide his true stance. All he can do is try to paper it over with platitudes. “If you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it,” Obama says on the campaign trail, although he voted in Illinois to do just that. And he goes on to admit the real obstacle: “Even if I wanted to take it away, I couldn’t get it done. I don’t have the votes in Congress.” In contrast, we have John McCain and Sarah Palin. As you can read throughout these pages, Sen. McCain has a good record overall of supporting the Second Amendment, and Gov. Palin would be a stellar new voice in Washington for gun owners. We’ve had a few disagreements with Sen. McCain in the past. We don’t hide from that, and neither does he. But that doesn’t cancel-out his long career of opposing gun and ammunition bans, opposing waiting periods, supporting America’s firearm industry and supporting our hunting heritage. And our differences with Sen. McCain don’t take away from the fact that Barack Obama, with his career of supporting every gun control scheme he’s ever encountered, would be the most anti-gun president in American history. Our mission – and our duty to protect the Second Amendment – is to defeat Barack Obama. Our mission is to ensure that Obama never has the chance to push the radical schemes he promoted in Illinois, or voted for in the U.S. Senate, or funded through the Joyce Foundation. And our mission is to ensure that the Congress, the governors and the state legislatures all stand against Obama and those who think like him. The only way we can do this is by voting for candidates endorsed by the NRA Political Victory Fund. To carry out that mission, we need you. And we need your family. And we need your friends and fellow sportsmen. To carry out that mission, all gun owners – and all who believe in the United States Constitution – need to go to the polls on November 4 to defeat Barack Obama and Joe Biden, by voting for the McCain-Palin ticket. OK. That’s pretty clear. If you also go on the internet to www.NRAPVF.org, you will find an entire listing of all candidates running for State and Federal positions and how they rate with the NRA. Get yourself briefed before you vote. Know who our enemies are and vote against them.
Pheasant Hunting at Suisun Marsh Hunting Preserve If you are one of the lucky club members to win a pair of pheasants at our monthly pheasant drawings, or if you’d like to go there to buy your birds and hunt, there are a few things the Suisun Marsh Hunting Preserve would like you to know: The 2008-09 season opened on September 20th. They will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. A valid California hunting license and upland bird stamp is required. THINK SAFETY!!! All persons must wear hunter orange while in the field. You are also urged to wear safety glasses. Please do not hunt on the roads or have loaded guns around vehicles or in the parking lots. DO NOT SMOKE IN THE FIELD!! If you have any questions concerning the pheasant drawings, hunting at the Suisun Marsh Hunting Preserve, or if you need help connecting up with other club members you’d like to pheasant hunt with, contact Ed White at (925) 687-5788. Member Achievement Hey folks, John Labash has been at it again.
