Message from the President

Hello Friend,

Well, we’ve just returned from a very successful club-sponsored fishing trip. About 15 members and guests arrived at the Emeryville Sportfishing Marina before dawn on Sunday, July 12th. We were briefed by our Captain that the day’s prospects for halibut and stripers in the SF Bay were pretty dismal and if we wanted to catch fish we should make the trip out to the Farallon Islands for some rockfishing. We all agreed and so we started off on our 2 ½- hour boat ride to the islands. The sea was uncommonly quiet for this time of year, something we were all very thankful for. We got to our fishing spot around 9:30am and the fishing was, simply put, FANTASTIC! Everyone was busy catching fish, and the action didn’t stop until our fish sacks were all full. Our deckhand, Chris, did a great job of filleting all our fish on the boat ride back. We couldn’t have asked for a better fishing trip. Many thanks go to our Fishing Chairman, Mike Thrall, and everyone else who helped for organizing a great outing.

Our next club general meeting will be on Tuesday, August 3rd. Members can participate in free trap or skeet shooting from 5:00pm till 6:00pm. Social time officially begins at 6:00pm, but you’re welcome to come early if you like. Dinner, which starts about 6:30pm, will be "bring your own meat to BBQ and a side dish to share with 8-10 other club members". The meeting will follow dinner, about 7:30pm or so, and one point of club business will be voting to accept or not the proposed changes to our fish and game trophy competition policies.

Vice-President’s Message

I am Dick Hay. I was elected your vice-president for the 2010/2011 year. Thanks for your support. I used to be an active hunter and fisherman, but now it’s mostly clay birds of all venues with a little pheasant hunting thrown in. Bay Point Rod and Gun Club has 500 plus members. Some of you I have not had the pleasure of meeting. We have lots of activities scheduled so come join us. Start by coming to a monthly meeting, shoot a round or two of skeet or trap, and enjoy a great social hour and meal. The business meeting follows the dinner where you may have some input for the club. Thanks to all members that show up and support the club. Look forward to seeing you.

Dick

A motion was made, seconded and passed to accept the June’s meeting minutes.

Old Business

John Thomas spoke about the new Fish and Game Trophy procedures which are being printed a second time this month for all members to see. A vote will be taken at next month’s general meeting regarding this proposal.

New Business

A motion was made, seconded, and passed to donate $500 to the Musketeers shot gun program. Rod Guyette will be asked to make a presentation regarding this program at one of our general meetings.

A motion was made, seconded, and passed to remove the U.S.I. minutes from our newsletter. This was done in an effort to help get the newsletter out in a more timely manner, and to lessen the amount of time it disrupts the McDonald Law Firm’s business who so kindly prints the hard copy editions at a substantial discount to the club.

Good of the Club

A suggestion was made to invite a speaker from the Gun Owners of California to speak at a future general meeting. Meeting adjourned at 8:08pm.

Board of Directors Meeting

The following items were discussed.

  • Food for next meeting

  • A suggestion was made to get some positive local publicity for events such as the Toys for Tots Shoot.

  • A treasurer’s audit committee will be organized from volunteers at our next general meeting.
